“It’s taken me way too long to get this out and the only reason I can offer is just that each time I sat down to do it, I could never find the words to express how truly grateful I am to have met you Dr. Mandras. When I came to the office a little more than a year ago I had almost given up even trying to find a dentist to help me. I had been very sick with late stage liver disease caused by an immune system disorder. Due to the symptoms and side effects of the medications I was taking, my teeth became extremely brittle and just began to break off at the gums most times leaving the nerve exposed open to major abscesses and infections. My inability to fight off the chronic infections meant that I spent most of the time in excruciating pain and I became terribly depressed. My self esteem was totally gone and I hadn’t smiled in so long I couldn’t say. I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror anymore because I hardly recognized myself.
I finally reached out to my sister and brother-in-law out of desperation and they called your office and I saw you right away. I have never met a kinder man and the gentleness and compassion you showed me was truly something. I don’t know how much detail I should give here, but I ended up having a pretty risky surgery and getting all the teeth I had extracted and immediate insertion full dentures that you made yourself if I am getting that correct. I will never forget the conversation we had about my options and you were saying that you could save the teeth I had but it was a big commitment and you asked me if I was able to do that but my prognosis was very grim and I sincerely didn’t believe I would even be around to worry with such a big commitment.
Well I am just absolutely stunned by just how much my health has improved since the source of such chronic infections was removed. I was taking 4 shots of insulin in my stomach each day, I was carrying an extra 80 lbs. of fluid and I had become a total recluse. Life was just so very sad. Now, I am not even testing as pre-diabetic, I have lost the fluid and keep on losing, I’m walking 4 miles a day and I am practicing yoga. And one of the best things that has happened to me is that I laugh again! Not just any laugh though, it’s that big, belly laugh that makes your face hurt afterward. And ironically enough, the person who made me laugh like that happened to fall in love with me because of my laugh and the “love of life” he says that laughter sounds like to him.
So I hope you can forgive me for taking so long to get this out, as I said earlier, I don’t think there are words to properly express how grateful I am. You truly saved my life in more ways than one. I don’t think I could imagine a sadder existence than the one I was living in where I couldn’t smile or stand to look at myself. I have nerves of steel. I am referred to by my friends as a “tough cookie.” Let me tell you that I was a very nervous cookie the first time I had to trust my pearly whites to Dr. Mandras. With my mouth wide open, I kept chanting in my head… “Dr. Taneyhill trusts him, so I do too.” And you know what… so true it turned out to be. He fitted me with a crown that was perfect. As a serious grinder, I have endured more than a dozen root canals, multiple crowns and 3 implants. I was diagnosed with TMJ over a decade ago. Dr. Taneyhill fitted me with a bite splint that changed my life. The fear of dealing with TMJ symptoms and my bite splint not fitting well was scary. I can tell you that my fear and anxiety was all for naught! Dr. Mandras has since fitted me with my second PERFECT crown and adjusted my TMJ bite splint several times.
